Frequently Asked Questions

What causes garage floor coatings to fail?

The three most common causes are inadequate preparation, moisture vapor emission (MVE), and using a product outside its intended purpose. Poor prep is the most preventable — grinding or shot blasting are the only acceptable methods for a professional installation.

What is MVE and why does it matter?

MVE stands for moisture vapor emission. Even in the Arizona desert, moisture travels up through concrete from the soil below. When a floor is coated, that moisture has nowhere to go — it builds pressure and can break the bond between your coating and the slab. RX Garage uses a vapor blocking epoxy primer rated to 15–18 lbs — the highest protection available.

What’s the difference between epoxy and polyaspartic?

Epoxy — specifically a vapor blocking epoxy primer — is the best product for bonding to concrete and resisting moisture from below. Polyaspartic is used as a topcoat offering superior UV stability, scratch resistance, and gloss retention. At RX Garage, we use both: epoxy as the base, polyaspartic on top.

Why does RX Garage use a vapor blocking epoxy primer on every job?

Because moisture is the number one cause of coating failure, even in the desert. It’s our insurance policy that your floor stays bonded for the long haul.

What is decorative flake and how does it hold up?

Decorative flake is broadcast into the coating system before the topcoat. It adds aesthetic appeal, increases traction, and adds durability. The blend of colors camouflages everyday wear — repairs blend in naturally and maintenance is minimal.

Does RX Garage install metallic floors?

No. Metallic coatings are highly susceptible to UV discoloration and require more maintenance. We focus on full flake systems over a vapor blocking epoxy base.

Are one-day installations a red flag?

Not necessarily — but it’s worth asking questions. One-day installs are the most profitable model for contractors cutting corners. At RX Garage, the focus is on the outcome, not the clock.

What preparation methods does RX Garage use?

Diamond grinding — the industry standard. We do not use acid etching or sanders.

Do you serve Fountain Hills, Scottsdale, Paradise Valley, and Rio Verde?

Yes — those are our primary service areas. We focus on a tight geographic area so every job gets the same level of attention.

What is the No Nonsense Warranty?

It covers both product and labor. If your floor ever has an issue traced back to the installation or materials, it gets fixed — period. The only thing it doesn’t cover is damage caused by customer neglect.
