Bare concrete seems grippy — until it isn’t. Add a little water from a car dripping after monsoon rain, tire dressing overspray, or a coolant leak, and smooth troweled concrete turns into a skating rink. Cheap DIY epoxy kits make it worse: they cure glass-smooth with zero texture.
Slip Resistance Isn’t a Product — It’s Built Into the System
At RX Garage, we don’t sell an “anti-slip treatment” as an add-on. Traction is engineered into every garage floor we install, through the same system we’ve refined since 2004:
- Moisture vapor blocking epoxy primer — the non-negotiable foundation. Before anything touches your slab, we seal it against the moisture vapor that migrates up through Arizona concrete. A coating that delaminates isn’t just ugly — peeling edges and bubbles are a trip hazard on their own.
- Polyaspartic base coat — UV-stable and flexible, built for Arizona heat. Epoxy topcoats amber and turn brittle in our climate; polyaspartic doesn’t.
- Full broadcast decorative flake — this is where the traction comes from. A full flake broadcast creates thousands of micro-peaks and valleys across the entire surface. Your shoes and tires grip texture, not glass.
- Polyaspartic topcoat — locks in the flake while preserving the texture profile.
Full Flake = Natural Anti-Slip
That flake layer isn’t just decorative. Unlike smooth-coated floors that need gritty additives (which wear off and feel like sandpaper underfoot), a full broadcast flake floor has permanent, uniform texture from wall to wall. It’s slip-resistant when dry — and more importantly, when wet.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is polyaspartic slippery when wet?
A smooth polyaspartic coating can be — which is exactly why we never install one without a full flake broadcast. The flake texture provides grip even with standing water on the floor.
Do you use anti-slip additives?
We don’t need to. Additives like aluminum oxide are a band-aid for smooth floors — they wear unevenly and can make cleaning miserable. Full flake texture is permanent and built into the floor itself.
Does the texture make the floor hard to clean?
No. The polyaspartic topcoat seals the flake into a smooth-to-the-mop but grippy-to-the-shoe surface. Dust, tire marks, and spills wipe up easily.
Can you fix my existing slippery epoxy floor?
Yes. We grind off failed or slick coatings, treat the slab with our moisture vapor blocking primer, and install the full system. Most garages are done in one to two days.
Do you coat patios or pool decks?
No — garages only. It’s the one thing we do, and we do it exceptionally well.
